Hidden Easter Eggs on Android device

Hello folks,

Many of you are not aware about secret Easter Eggs in your Android Device. Each version of Android since Gingerbread (Android 2.3) has included an Easter egg, which is always accessed in the same way. The Easter eggs in the latest versions are becoming more complex, with animations and interactivity.

Android’s Easter eggs pay tribute to nyan cat, Tron, zombies, and jelly beans. Each Easter egg is themed to fit with the Android version’s release name.

Accessing Android’s Easter Eggs

To access the Easter egg in your version of Android, open the Settings screen and tap About phone or About tablet at the bottom of the screen.

Locate Android’s version number on the about screen and quickly tap it several times. The Easter egg will appear. Look for “Firmware version” instead of “Android version” on Gingerbread.

Jelly Bean (Android 4.1)

Jelly Bean’s Easter egg is a large, red jelly bean. Tap it with your finger and a face will appear.

Long-press the jelly bean and an interactive jelly bean mini-game will appear. A cluster of jelly beans will float around the screen. You can move them around and swipe them off the screen with your finger. This game will never end (unless your battery dies).

Finally Whatsapp received a Material Design overhaul.

At long last, WhatsApp has received a Material Design overhaul on Android, and it now looks a whole lot better than the last version.

The update isn’t yet available on Google Play, so you’ll need to install the latest version off WhatsApp’s site to see the changes.

WhatsApp version 2.12.41 now features a deep green title bar that blends into the three tabs for calls, chats and contacts. You’ll notice new buttons in the chat window to record voice messages, as well as in the attachment option pop-up.

Google Drive offline Installer (official)

Much like Chrome, Google offers the online installer for Google Drive too, which may be not the most convenient install method for systems with low bandwidth and slow internet connection.

Usually, like all, you can download Google Drive from here (you need to sign into your Google account for this) which is of size 700+ KB. If you run Googledrive sync.exe, then Google Drive installer downloads required files and installs drive on your Computer.

Finding official offline installer link for Google Drive isn't that difficult.

It’s true that Google does offer offline installer for their cloud storage service, but keeps it hidden, though you can find it easily. Since Google Drive version number changes with the updates, it’s difficult to provide a permanent URL here on blog for Google Drive.

Official Google drive offline installer to say for e.g. for version number x is
http://dl.google.com/drive/x/gsync.msi
where you need to replace x with the current version number which is 1.20.8672.3137.

Then Google Drive standalone installer link becomes http://dl.google.com/drive/1.20.8672.3137/gsync.msi, but this link will change once Google drive program updates, then you need to replace above version number with the new one. This might be a bit tedious.

Whatsapp Calling Invites Open Again

A friend of mine informed me that function activated over the past hours, and I just got mine up and running after receiving a call from her (who got it from another friend, and so on). So as you are suspecting, the "invite" or, more accurately, the trigger that enables the feature has to be the reception of a call from someone who already has it. Once that happens, WhatsApp's UI switches (either immediately or after you exit and reopen the app) from just showing chats, to a 3-tab layout with calls, chats, and contacts.

Calls are well integrated in WhatsApp. The dedicated tab shows incoming, outgoing, and missed calls with precise timing. Ongoing calls stay in the notification panel until you hang up while missed calls leave a notification that you can later check out. While on a call, you can activate the loudspeaker or mute the microphone. If you open your text chats with any contact, a call button appears in the action bar, right next to the attach icon and the menu, to make it easier to talk to them. And finally, if you click a contact's avatar, you now get a bigger profile image with the options to message or call them, or view their information.

The call button for all contacts now defaults to a WhatsApp call instead of going through your phone. I can't find a way to trigger a regular network call from the app, which is a bit annoying because you might be in a spotty area or your contact might be offline. You'll have to go to your regular Phone app to initiate a network call.

When you're lucky enough to receive a WhatsApp call from a friend, you can go on enabling the feature by calling your other contacts. If they're running an older version of the app that doesn't support it, you will instantly see a message notifying you of that so you can tell them to update their app before you call them.
